About the company

History
Mikro Kemi AB was founded in 1983 by Gunnar Hesselius and operated as a family business until February 2000, when the company was acquired by the Bergman & Beving Group. In February 2011 the company was acuired by Eurofins Pharma LUX sarl. With more than 9000 employees at 150 sites in 30 countries, Eurofins Scientific is a leading international group of laboratories providing an unparalleled range of testing and support services to the pharmaceutical, food, environmental and consumer products industries and to governments. The company name is now changed to Eurofins MikroKemi.

About ourselves and our areas of expertise
The management team of MikroKemi consists of three individuals with unique competence in their respective fields; Ilya Zelikman - pharmaceutical analysis, Kristin Bäckström - elemental analysis & pharmacopeia analysis, and Tobias Svensson-Mejer -  analytical chemistry. Together they posses a full range of deep competences, as well as extensive knowledge of the customers' requirements. Their genuine interest in their respective field of competence assures that they are well informed about recent developments and trends.

Elemental analysis
The company was initially focused on elemental analysis. Gunnar Hesselius had worked for many years together with Professor Wolfgang J. Kirsten at SLU (the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences) with the development and publication of analytical methods for elemental analysis before he founded Mikro Kemi AB. Today elemental analysis is a small but important part of the company's operations. Kristin Bäckström supports the team working with elemental analysis. Kristin has studied analytical chemistry at Uppsala University and has worked at Mikro Kemi since 1997.

Pharmacopeia analysis
The analysis of raw materials in accordance with pharmacopeias (Ph Eur, USP and JP) is a service that has expanded significantly during the last couple of years. This operation is relatively complex and requires good coordination. Kristin Bäckström is the primary contact for this part of our operations.

Pharmaceutical analysis
Specialist is Ilya Zelikman. He has a Ph D in analytical biochemistry from Uppsala University. Ilya has worked a number of years for Pharmacia & Upjohn where he was responsible for the separation shop. He has also worked for a few other pharmaceutical companies and operated his own contract research organization. Ilya joined MikroKemi in April 2006.

Pharmaceutical analysis constitutes the largest part of our operations. We have an extensive collection of advanced analytical instruments including the latest in chromatography such as ultra fast liquid chromatography. Naturally, we also have conventional HPLC and LC-MS. We have GC's of different types such as GC-MS and GC headspace.

Water analysis
One of the companys special area is chemical analysis of ultrapure water (PW/WFI). This is an extensive area which provides 25 % of the companys turnover.

Our employees
Our employees is of vital importance for our success. Most of them have a degree in analytical chemistry or high competence in other fields. In recent years MikroKemi has implemented a program to increase the employees' competence both when hiring new staff and by offering specialized training to the employees. The aim is to assure the high level of competence our customers require and expect.

We adapt our way of working so that it fits our customer's requirements. This means that we can do everything from a single routine analysis to smaller or larger projects. It is also possible for you as a customer to have a dedicated person at our laboratory working just for you. Good knowledge of the customers' needs, quality, personal service and flexibility are key words for how our operations shall be run.
